Stephen Hughes

Stephen holds a Bachelor of Laws from University of Queensland and a Master of Laws from QUT. He was admitted as a solicitor in Queensland in January 1991, and has over 33 years’ experience working across workplace relations, employment, health and safety and compensation law. Stephen is also admitted in the High Court of Australia.
Stephen is a Queensland Law Society (QLS) Accredited Specialist (personal injuries) of over 25 years’ standing; and is one of only a few still practicing from the inaugural accredited cohort. Stephen was previously a workers’ compensation and CTP insurer (respondent/ defendant) panel lawyer for almost 20 years, before transitioning to claimant representation.
Stephen is a regular presenter at CPD events on personal injuries and employment law for providers such as ALA, Legalwise, LexisNexis and Crown Leadership.
Stephen deeply understands the impacts that injury can have on a person’s life and livelihood, both through his extensive legal experience and from serving as an Honorary Board Member and Legal Counsel for the Australian Society of Rehabilitation Counsellors Ltd (ASORC) since 1993. In 2021 Stephen was proud to be awarded an ASORC Honorary Fellowship in recognition of his many decades of service. In 2023, Stephen received an Associations Hall of Fame Award from Associations Forum for his pro bono services to the not-for-profit sector.
In personal injuries, Stephen sees his role as not only achieving fair compensation for clients but being a caring and trusted partner who guides claimants through the legal process with dignity and compassion.
In the employment law sphere, Stephen acts for select clients across a full range of workplace relations, industrial relations and employment law matters ranging from front end enterprise bargaining strategizing to back end unfair dismissal and adverse action litigation, HR policy and procedure drafting to anti-bullying and harassment matters, and work health and safety compliance to Notifiable Incident notifications and prosecution defences.

He vividly remembers his early days in the field, notably an instance where he helped a minor brain injury client who was on the verge of giving up return from their home country to Australia to fight for their claim, and as a result he obtained a significant settlement for that client. This, of many experiences, coupled with his unique multicultural background including his Thai and Chinese heritage and education at Bond University (Juris Doctor) on the Gold Coast, makes Walun an emphatic and effective advocate in his field.

Amy was born and raised in South Korea until 2006, when her family moved to Canada. She graduated with Distinction from Simon Fraser University, majoring in Philosophy with a concentration in Law. This sparked her interest in Law, leading her to pursue and complete her Juris Doctor program at Bond University in February 2024.
Amy has gained a unique perspective from having studied philosophy and it has guided her principles and values to be focused on people. She believes in being compassionate and patient towards others and will aim to provide clients with the best assistance as possible.

Davyn was born in the Philippines and raised in Australia. She is a 2024 graduate in Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Criminology and Criminal Justice and is currently working towards completing her Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice. She has experience in Personal Injury Law and a hospitality background in the fast food and aged care industries.
Davyn has a strong passion for promoting kindness and integrity. Her compassionate and empathetic approach is how she provides clients with the best possible care and assistance. Davyn enjoys being a part of non-profit organisations such as volunteering at the Lifeline Bookfest and has interests in participating in further volunteering opportunities.
