I was driving my friend’s RAV4 to work when I came to a stop due to a set of red traffic lights on Birkdale Road on a beautiful sunny day. My car was suddenly hit with significant force and was pushed sideways and through a roadside house fence. My body was thrown around violently inside the car and I immediately felt neck and upper back pain.

The ambulance took me to the Redland Hospital where I was assessed in the emergency department. Following this, I was reviewed by my GP, physiotherapist and orthopaedic surgeon who confirmed that I had sustained musculoligamentous injuries to my cervical spine.

I was a self-employed hairdresser at the time of the accident and I could not return to full-time hours due to my physical limitations due to the accident injury and had to rely on my employees to assist with the business and any heavy lifting duties.

The injuries still affect my work day-day work as I have difficulty with my hairdressing duties including blow drying and washing hair over a basin. I also continue to suffer from traffic anxiety and have problems with reversing and lane changing.
